The beneficial properties of aloe vera were known in antiquity.
Try to find another cosmetic product that you can use as successfully as aloe vera gel, to solve a variety of beauty problems.
In today’s article, I will tell you the best ways to use aloe vera gel.
Extract and juice of aloe vera can be found in many skin care products. But today we will talk about the popular aloe vera gel, the boom of which coincided with the growing popularity of the 10-Step Korean skin care system.
100% Aloe Vera Gel – you can find such a product in the line of, perhaps, every self-respecting Korean brand. Benton, Holika Holika, Tony Moly, The Saem. This is just a small list of brands in which you can find such a gel.
Asian brands, in addition to aloe gel itself, often add additional moisturizing and caring ingredients, due to which they receive a multifunctional product.
And in this article, I will tell you about the 21 ways to use aloe vera gel. And I will also share my life hacks that I use.
So, let’s get started …
21 ways to use aloe vera gel:
- Aloe vera gel for face
- Aloe vera gel for hair
- Aloe vera gel for body
- Aloe vera gel for eyelashes and eyebrows
So, how to use aloe vera gel? I found 21 ways.
Aloe Vera Gel For Face
1. As A Light Face Cream
Aloe vera gel penetrates the skin four times faster than water. Therefore, extracts obtained from aloe vera leaves deeply moisturize the skin and prevent its dehydration, while maintaining the optimal amount of moisture in the epidermis layers.
Due to its powerful moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties, aloe gel is suitable for young, oily and problematic skin instead of a day cream. It doesn’t clog pores and doesn’t conflict with makeup. For normal skin, this may be more of an option for the summer.
Aloe also has an anti-aging effect.
As you know, with age, the skin becomes drier and loses its elasticity. Aloe juice stimulates the production of collagen and hyaluronic acid, due to which the skin remains elastic and smooth longer – without wrinkles and “creases”. In addition, thanks to the vitamins C and E composition, aloe is a first-class antioxidant that interferes with the oxidation process in cells and slows down their destruction.
Does it really work?
I have normal skin type, but moisturizing with aloe gel is not enough for me. I use it under a cream or emulsion. And then the hydration is super.
For dry skin, aloe gel can be used as additional moisturizer.
And for sensitive skin, aloe will be a good helper in the fight against irritated skin, provided that there are no irritating components in its composition.
For oily and combination skin, aloe gel is just perfect – it moisturizes well and will regulate the sebaceous glands. It will also relieve irritation and help fight rashes.
For mature skin, aloe gel can be used as a base for some homemade remedy, mixing oils and vitamins into it to enhance the effect.
Life hack for those who love workout
Aloe gel is great for refreshing your skin after a workout, especially if you put it in the refrigerator first. Aloe gels have a cooling effect, and after a hard workout, this is exactly what you need. Immediately after applying the gel to the skin, you feel just amazing.
2. Moisturizing Mask
The gel performed well in home masks. With it, any mask is perfectly distributed over the face and doesn’t dry out longer. Ingredients with which you can combine aloe gel: honey, oatmeal, vegetable oils, lemon juice, yolk, clay.
But aloe vera gel can be used on its own.
Apply aloe gel in a very dense layer on the face and leave for half an hour. Such a mask can be made at night, without washing off the product: the main thing is to take care of laying a pillowcase or towel, which is not a pity to stain. This method is perfect for resuscitation of dry, dehydrated and even oily skin.
3. Essence
Following the rules of 10-step Korean skin care, use aloe gel as one of the initial steps – as an essence. Apply toner, and then apply gel, after which you can use a cream to seal moisture in the skin.
4. Moisturizing Serum
Or you can use the gel as serum and apply it before cream. It will provide additional hydration, remove redness, heal acne. Doesn’t create a sticky film.
Important Information: Of course you can use aloe gel instead of cream and essence and serum, but this doesn’t replace full-fledged skin care. Aloe gel can be alternated with cream and other skin care products, but you can’t completely replace them with gel.
For example, if you need to smooth wrinkles, it is better to purchase the appropriate cream, and use the gel for additional effect.
Or if you need to remove age spots, then a specially designed serum can do this much better and faster, and aloe gel will be an addition.
5. As An Eye Cream
Apply a little gel on the base for patches or cotton pads, apply to the eyelids and leave for 20-25 minutes. The gel pleasantly cools the skin and soothes it, and as a result it helps to remove swelling, helps in the fight against bruises under the eyes and slightly lightens the skin tone.
You can also put the gel overnight in the refrigerator, and gently apply it on the skin around the eyes in the morning. The gel will relieve swelling, pleasantly cool and refresh the look.
6. To Remove Blackheads
One of the most common way to use aloe vera gel is to remove blackheads.
Apply generously aloe vera gel or pulp to problem areas of the skin.
Wait 10-15 minutes, massage the skin in these areas and rinse with warm water. Aloe will remove dead skin particles and “pull” all impurities from the pores.
The result can be consolidated with a clay mask to maximize skin cleansing and close the pores. Such a mask is also suitable for dry skin because aloe juice gently cleanses without overdrying and without injuring.
Lafe hack that always saves me
I often clean my pores manually and after that my face is very red.
What am I doing?
Immediately after cleansing the pores, I wipe my face with micellar water, wait a couple of minutes and apply aloe vera gel all over my face. This helps to quickly soothe the skin, relieve redness, and prevent scarring.
7. The Medicine For Acne
Aloe is an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory product that helps fight acne, blackheads and rushes, and reduces inflammation and redness – dries and treats them.
More about the acne treatment you can read in the article causes of occurrence and acne treatment methods.
You can also add aloe vera gel to a homemade clay mask. But to hold it on your face until it dries completely is wrong: as soon as the product begins to dry, wash your face.
8. Base For Makeup
If all of a sudden your primer ends unexpectedly, you can even out the skin texture with aloe vera gel – it works really well.
But be careful, some aloe gels will roll off and this can significantly reduce the hold of your makeup.
By the way, the habit of rolling the foundation can be one of the causes of acne. Read more about it in the article habits that make your acne worse.
Aloe Vera Gel For Hair
Aloe accelerates hair growth and prevents hair loss, and also deeply nourishes the hair and scalp. After a week of use, the effect will be noticeable. Dandruff completely disappears, curls become more elastic, there are no traces of fragility, the number of cut ends becomes smaller. After treatment with aloe, the damaged hair structure is completely restored along the entire length.
Fat that accumulate on the scalp, thereby clogging the pores and preventing the formation of new bulbs. As a result, hair grows poorly and looks untidy. This is the so-called “oily hair.” They don’t get enough food and soon fall out. Aloe vera extract gently cleanses the skin, opens clogged pores, and has an antibacterial effect.
For hair, it is better to use pure aloe vera juice – it works much more effective. But for the face choose exactly aloe gel, because which of us likes to be bitter.
Also, for hair, aloe vera gel will be rather weak.
Below I have listed several ways to use aloe vera hair gel that have a right to exist.
But I strongly recommend that you replace the aloe gel with pure aloe juice in these recipes.
9. Moisturizing Hair Masks
Aloe gel can help not only the skin of the face or body, but also the hair.
Important: Aloe gel as a hair mask should be applied to wet (slightly dried with a towel) hair. So the gel is spent much more economically, and it is easier to evenly distribute it through the hair. After applying such a mask to the hair, it is important to wrap the hair with cling film or just put on a disposable hat and then wrap the hair with a towel.
Apply a sufficient amount of gel on the hair roots and along the entire length of the hair, leave for 20-30 minutes, and then rinse. Hair will become very soft and obedient. You can add a couple of drops of argan, coconut or lemon oil to the mask, which will enhance the beneficial effect.
10. As A Hair Styling Product
Apply a little aloe vera gel on clean, slightly dried hair. It will facilitate combing and give easy fixation. In addition, aloe will protect hair from high temperatures and environmental hazards.
For me personally, this method didn’t work because I have long, thick hair that tends to fluffy. And I need a powerful product to keep my hair obedient.
11. Against Dandruff
Aloe vera gel is great for treating dandruff which if not treated in time, can inevitably cause hair loss. Aloe has analgesic properties that help stop itching caused by dandruff. The antibacterial and antifungal properties of aloe directly affect the origin of dandruff, holding it and preventing progress.
Also, the gel thoroughly cleanses the scalp, removes all the fat accumulated in the pores and balances the pH level of the skin.
Being a “moisturizer”, aloe gel nourishes the hair follicles, as a good restorer for damaged hair. It gives the scalp a feeling of freshness. In addition, it contains an enzyme that stimulates hair growth, making them much stronger and healthier.
Thanks to the nutrients contained in aloe vera gel, your hair will become beautiful, healthy and shiny! How to do it? It is simple, once or twice a week, gently massage the scalp for few minutes with aloe vera gel before using the shampoo.
For a more noticeable result, leave the gel on your hair overnight. It maybe a little bit awkward to sleep with a mask on your hair, but the result worth it. Guaranteed effect!
In the future, do such masks with aloe a couple of times a month to prevent dandruff.
And most importantly, be sure to find out what caused the appearance of dandruff earlier. Maybe your shampoo doesn’t suit you by type of hair or skin and cleans too rough. Or maybe something else. Anyway, to be sure, consult with your hairdresser about the hair cosmetics you use.
12. To Grow Hair
Aloe juice contains allantoin, a natural growth promoter. Therefore, aloe juice is used in many masks not only for hair growth, but also for baldness, because aloe awakens dormant hair follicles. And with a mask with aloe and a good head massage, you can achieve amazing results.
I decided to grow my hair and for this I use this mask …
Aloe Vera mask recipe for hair growth and to treat baldness
Ingredients
- 1 big aloe vera leaf
- Glass of pure melted coconut oil
- Neem leaves (you can oil neem)
Recipe
- Heat the coconut oil in a water bath (use double boiling method) for 10 minutes.
- Add neem leaves and cook in a for 10 minutes.
- Cut the thorns from both sides from the aloe vera leaf and cut it into 1.5 cm slices.
- Add aloe slices to coconut oil and neem leaves and cook for 10 minutes.
- Make sure that the oil itself doesn’t boil, cook over low heat.
- Then turn off the heat and let this whole mixture stand for 30 minutes.
- Then strain and pour into a separate container.
Keep in mind that because this mask is based on coconut oil, the mask will harden regularly. And before each use, you will need to hold the container with the mask in hot water for a couple of minutes, so that it melts.
This mask should be used 2 times a week, 1 hour before hair wash. You will notice the first results after a couple of weeks of use.
This mask should only be applied to the hair roots and then do a gentle scalp massage for a few minutes.
The prepared oil should be stored in a dark place at room temperature. The oil can be stored for up to 5 months.
This mask is suitable for both men and women. This mask can be done both as prevention and treatment of baldness, as well as in order to grow beautiful, thick, long hair.
13. Fixing Gel For Eyebrows And Flyaway Hair
Aloe gel is suitable as a fixer for eyebrows or smoothing protruding young hairs on the head – it really works.
On eyebrows you can apply gel with a mascara brush and on hair with a comb with small cloves.
This life hack really works, but it requires updating after some time.
Aloe Vera Gel For Body
14. For Body Moisturizing
Also aloe gel is a great moisturizer for your skin.
Aloe also stimulates the growth of new cells, which speeds up the healing process of acne, prevents the formation of scars and helps to combat existing scars and stretch marks. It also helps lighten age spots.
After a shower lightly pat the body with a towel and onto the still wet skin, apply the product in a thin layer. It is absorbed instantly, without leaving a sticky feeling and making the skin very soft and velvety.
Aloe gel can replace cream, mousse or body milk. It is quickly absorbed, doesn’t leave stickiness. After it, the skin is smooth and moisturized.
15. Hand And Cuticle Care
Aloe vera gel nourishes and moisturizes the skin of the hands and smoothes wrinkles.
Many of us face dry hands, regardless of the season. You can lubricate the hands with gel several times a day. Constant hand washing (after the street and before eating) dries out the skin. And this gel perfectly moisturizes and, importantly, is quickly absorbed and leaves no residue. Therefore it is perfect for those who work with papers.
You can also apply the gel to the cuticle. The gel softens the cuticle well, prevents the appearance of burrs during manicure.
From my own experience, I will say that for the summer, aloe gel and some light hand cream will be enough. But for the winter you need a good hand cream. Because the gel doesn’t save from serious peeling, let alone cracks. But for the summer it is quite suitable.
16. Before And After Shaving
Aloe vera gel can also be used to soothe irritated skin after shaving. This is a very unusual, but incredibly effective solution.
The gel removes irritation, activates cell regeneration, heals micro-scratches and effectively moisturizes the skin after shaving or epilation. You can apply it both before and after shaving.
And also the plus of aloe vera gel is that it is suitable for both women and men.
I bought my brother aloe vera gel from Holika Holika, he really liked it. At first, he was skeptical of it, but then he tried it a couple of times and said that it really removes irritation after shaving.
Convincing a man to take care of his skin is not that difficult. If you want to know how to do this right, then read the article how to convince your man to look after his appearance.
17. Aloe Vera Scrub
You can use aloe vera as a scrub base because it accelerates cell regeneration, helps exfoliate dead skin cells and accelerates the formation of new cells by eight times, allowing the skin to regenerate faster.
For a scrub, in my opinion, it is better to use aloe vera gel, because it is used as a base for a scrub and gives the desired glide over the skin. It is also much easier to mix all the ingredients in it.
Aloe vera scrub recipes
1 recipe
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons of ground rice
- 2 teaspoons of lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons of milk
- 1 teaspoon of aloe vera gel
Recipe
- To prepare this scrub, you need 3 tablespoons of ground rice.
- Add 2 teaspoons of lemon juice, 2 teaspoons of milk and 1 teaspoon of aloe vera gel.
- Mix everything well and apply to a pre-steamed body.
Such a scrub is best used for legs. But then you shouldn’t forget that you need to do this 1 or 2 day before shaving or epilation.
After a scrub, you need to moisturize the body. And again, a universal aloe vera gel to help.
2 recipe
Ingredients
- Glass of finely ground sea salt
- 3 teaspoons of honey
- 1 teaspoon of Aloe Vera juice or gel
Recipe
- A glass of finely ground sea salt mix with three tablespoons of honey and add a tablespoon of aloe vera juice or gel.
- Stir the ingredients thoroughly and apply scrub to the body, paying particular attention to the skin on the elbows, knees, hips and buttocks.
You probably know the nutritional and moisturizing properties of honey.
Aloe vera extract is a conductor of beneficial components inside the skin. This scrub is similar to those used in beauty salons, but in this case you will save money by preparing the scrub yourself.
It is very convenient to store home-made cosmetics like scrubs in small transparent cosmetic containers. They are small, hermetically sealed and they can be conveniently stored in the refrigerator.
18. To Heal Cracks
Aloe vera quickly soothes the skin, relieves irritation, redness and itching and also heals small wounds and scratches.
Such an embarrassing question that many hesitate to ask
Who often has it that the skin between the toes peels off or even cracks? And it hurts, stings and itches. Has anyone ever had this?
It was so with me. And I discovered such a life hack for myself …
After shower, apply aloe vera gel between your toes. If you have severe cracks, then apply after every shower. And if just a little peeling, then it will be enough to apply in the evening before bedtime.
Using this aloe vera gel, my cracks went away pretty quickly. And then I replaced aloe with a cream that moisturizes well and prevents the appearance of flaking.
19. After Tanning Like Sunscreen
Aloe gel helps from burns after sunbathing – relieves pain, soothes and cools the skin nicely. Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, aloe gel reduces redness caused by exposure to UV rays, accelerates cell regeneration and forms a protective layer to retain moisture in the cells – moisture that is especially needed for damaged skin.
Important: You can’t apply aloe gel on the skin before tanning, because then aloe will act as a magnifying glass and the chances of getting sunburn greatly increase at times. The gel must be applied on the skin after tanning to moisturize and relieve irritation.
If you are sunburned, lubricate the affected areas with a dense layer of gel – it soothes and softens the skin. Such a “mask” relieves pain quickly, and the next day the injury will be noticeably less.
Aloe vera can be used even for small children.
By the way, according to one of the Western studies, healing of first and second degree burns under the influence of aloe occurs a week faster!
20. SOS Remedy For Light Frostbite
At the first signs of frostbite or chapping, you need to apply the gel as an SOS remedy.
Aloe gel is quickly absorbed, but at the same time creates an invisible barrier on the skin, which perfectly protects against wind and other external irritants throughout the day. So apply the gel to exposed skin before going outside, because it’s easier to prevent damage to the skin than to fix it later.
Aloe Vera Gel For Eyelashes And Eyebrows
21. For The Growth Of Eyelashes And Eyebrows
Long and thick eyelashes may not necessarily be only extensions. Yes, someone got such beauty from nature. Someone paid for a 2D or 3D effect in a beauty salon, and you can literally grow them with simple products.
The possibility of using aloe for eyelashes surprises many. But, as experience shows, sometimes the most common remedies do far better than advertised serums.
You can use aloe vera alone or as part of other products. The effect is expected in 3-4 weeks. Some of the homemade mixtures you can also use for the growth and density of eyebrows. No harm, only good! So it’s worth a try.
Comb your lashes for length and density
To remove dust particles, as well as dirt that clog pores, comb your eyelashes regularly. This is a fairly simple way to stimulate blood flow, which ensures the supply of hair follicles with a large number of useful and nutrients.
Take a mascara brush, apply a little vitamin E or vitamin oil. Slowly comb the hairs from the roots. Repeat the procedure twice a day. The first results of therapy are expected in 10 days.
Massage is another great eyelash treatment. Apply a little shea butter along the growth line and rub it gently in circular motions for 2 minutes. Such sessions should be repeated twice a day for several months.
4 best home remedies with aloe vera for eyelash growth
- You can simply moisten a cotton swab in aloe juice and draw along the line of eyelash growth. Repeat the procedure for two months, so that the result becomes noticeable. But if you need a more effective remedy for eyelash growth, use one of the recipes below.
- Combine 5 drops of castor oil, a vitamin E capsule and the juice of one aloe leaf or a tablespoon of gel. Apply this mixture on the eyelashes in the morning and evening along the growth line for a month.
- Grind a few sprigs of parsley with 1/3 tablespoon aloe juice. With gentle massage movements, apply the mixture on the upper eyelids for 5 minutes, rinse.
- Mix a few drops of aloe juice (or gel), castor oil, and vitamin A. It is ideal for eyebrows and eyelashes. Apply it every evening and be surprised at the result after 3 weeks.
These masks, oils and vitamins are best alternated with each other to achieve the best result.
It is very convenient to apply gel or masks to the eyelashes using empty mascara tubes.
How To Choose Aloe Vera Gel?
When choosing an aloe vera gel, you need to carefully read the composition. Many manufacturers dilute the gel with water and use very small amount of aloe vera extract in the composition.
So, it has nothing to do with a natural plant or a highly concentrated gel, and the formula loses all its benefits.
Read the article the best Korean aloe vera gels – there you will find reviews of the best gels, as well as a detailed breakdown of the composition with all the pros and cons.
So how to choose aloe vera gel:
First, look at its list of ingredients. In the first place must be aloe vera under the name Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice.
What To Look For When Choosing Aloe Vera Gel:
- The highest percentage of aloe vera gel (should be 90% or more)
- Aloe vera gel directly from the aloe leaf
- It should be organic pure aloe vera gel
- The lowest amount of added ingredients
- If any ingredients are added, they must be natural and in their properties complement the effect of aloe (moisturize, smooth wrinkles, soften the skin …)
What To Choose: Pure Aloe Vera Juice Or Gel?
As we have already seen, aloe vera is an effective natural remedy for moisturizing the skin, it is suitable for both dry and oily skin. Today, many brands produce concentrated gels with aloe vera juice or extract.
There are hundreds of recipes on how to use aloe gel and juice at home.
However, despite all the positive characteristics, concentrated juice can cause allergies due to the high content of biologically active ingredients.
Therefore, do an allergy test in advance 24 hours before use. And this applies not only to aloe juice, but also to gel and in general any skin care product you haven’t used before.
I advise you to look at how your body reacts to this or that remedy. For hair, of course, it is better to use pure aloe juice – it contains more vitamins and it works much effective.
For the face and body, it is better to use aloe vera gel – it moisturizes well, smells good, absorbs well and tastes good, which is important if you are in a relationship with someone.
And in order to grow eyebrows and eyelashes, pure aloe vera juice will work much better, provided that it doesn’t irritate your eyes.
And if God forbid you have a little frostbite, then aloe juice is much better. But to treat a small sunburn from tanning is better with aloe gel.
Conclusion
Aloe vera gel is a versatile personal care product. I am sure that everyone can find for themselves several ways to use this gel.
Personally, I chose several ways to use this gel. I use it as an extra moisturizer for the face. It is especially pleasant to apply the gel on the face in the heat or after training. It cools very nicely.
I use it for the body, as a moisturizer after a shower and a soothing cream after shaving. I also aloe vera gel as part of eyelash masks along with castor and almond oil and vitamins A and E.
Personally, I chose to use Aloe 99% Soothing Gel from Holika Holika. It is perfect for my skin and I find it very useful.
I will repeat myself, choosing the best aloe vera gel for yourself, be sure to pay attention to the composition. It is necessary that the composition was from 90% and above the content of aloe. Only in this case will it bring maximum benefit.
I wish you good luck and patience. Follow the recommendations above, be patient and you will succeed.
Love yourself and be beautiful.
